For our entire knitting careers, we've been pursuing the “perfect hat” – and while our standards have gotten higher as our skills have increased, we've finally made it. This is our personal perfect vanilla hat (that is, a basic, plain pattern), complete with all the little details. We use a combination of a specific cast-on, needle combination, and ratio of stitches between the ribbing and the hat to make an incredibly stretchy high-memory brim. On top of that (literally!) we follow a specific decrease rhythm for a well-shaped crown, and alter the needles and rhythm at the very end for a dense, fully closed top. This hat is also available as a (free!) pattern & tutorial on our blog, but for those of you who cannot or don't want to knit it, you can still get your very own piece of hearthside comfort <3
This hat, at standard sizing, has a highly flexible brim (20 to 28 inches in circumference) and fits snug against the crown of the head. It's available either in a traditionally-spun wool blend yarn (pictured in Forest Green) or a boucle acrylic (pictured in Cream), in a wide variety of colors.
